Have yourself a Merry Christmas!

Last night I drove through the dark landscape. There were lights on the houses and on the trees along the way, many windows were brightly lit by stars, Santa Claus was climbing up the one or the other facade and in front of some houses were illuminated snowmen and women. Everything seemed to glitter a bit. I was driving, I listened to Christmas music and I had a wonderful tingling in my belly…. It is almost Christmas!

I am looking forward to Christmas!

Advent is already a unique time. It smells of hot spiced wine, waffles, cocoa, we are try to meet friends, taste homemade cookies and wish each other a joyful Advent. Everyone is cheerful, and especially during this crazy and strange COVID time, it feels as if everyone is getting emotionally closer together. This year I truly feel that it is a beautiful time and for the first time in years I don’t miss anything.

I'm really enjoying this year Christmas and the Advent, the weeks before Christmas. I am prepared. Emotionally as well as practically. Since last year due to COVID we were forced to stay home and spent the holidays alone, I could practice.

This year I am prepared! It helps to I know how we will spend the holidays. I am kind of in charge. And I am determined to make it special!

We will spend Christmas Eve as a couple. In the morning I will prepare the food, a very traditional meal of my family.  I will cook, decorate the house, listen to Christmas music and truly enjoy the anticipation.
I will continue the tradition that started last year, I will make Christmas our Christmas! Who says you need children to live traditions?

My husband and I will go to church together, listen to Bach's Christmas Oratorio after dinner and light the real candles on the Christmas tree. While the tympani ring in Christmas, we will wish each other Merry Christmas, enjoy the festivity and yes, it will be Christmas! Even without children, there is Christmas magic.

Lights, music, candles, cookies, Christmas cards, friends to whom you wish Merry Christmas, the wonderful smell of fresh fir tree in the house, this is not just for children! It for everyone even if the commercials and TV wants us to believe differently.

Children belong to Christmas and adults do, too. My nephews will certainly be quite nervous and can hardly wait for the "Christkind" to finally arrive. We will call them on Christmas Eve and maybe we visit them on the 25th.

But on Christmas Eve we will have our own Christmas, it is probably more predictable, a little quieter but certainly not less beautiful.

There it comes again… the tingling and warm feeling in my belly… :-)

  2. It sounds wonderful! There is so much to enjoy, wherever we are in the world. I loved hearing about your Christmas traditions, just as today it felt like Christmas (to me) because the weather is warm and the pohutukawa trees are all blooming! I almost feel a little disappointed because we are not going to be here, at home, on our own, where we truly make Christmas our own. Still, we cheat, and sometimes have our favourite Christmas food when we come home! lol

Merry Christmas, Lilly! And very best wishes for the New Year.

    1. Dear Mali,
I wish you a merry Christmas, too. It sounds so funny because for us, Christmas time is so different here compared to your Christmas. We have dark and short days, candles and most of the times quite rainy weather. The pohutukawa trees on your side of the world are so beautiful (I looked them up :-))!

I wish you a very merry Christmas too and just the best for the New Year!
